Introducing the Nomi Health Community Champions Program: Making a Difference Where It Matters
At Nomi Health, we believe the key to building stronger, healthier communities lies within those who know them best—the people who call them home. That’s why we are proud to introduce the Community Champions program, a new initiative from the Nomi Health Foundation. This pilot program aims to harness the insights and passions of Nomi Health employees living in Salt Lake City, Miami, Austin, and beyond to make a positive impact in their communities.
The spark behind Community Champions
The idea behind the Community Champions program is simple yet powerful: nobody understands a community better than those who live within it. Our Community Engagement team recognizes that each city we work with has unique priorities and challenges. Who better to address these issues than the very people who experience them firsthand?
Our goal is to leave a lasting, positive impact on the communities we serve through collaborative efforts that are as diverse and dynamic as the cities themselves. Whether tackling health disparities, promoting senior well-being, or advocating for greater inclusion and access, our champions are poised to make a real difference where it counts.
Backing passion with resources
At Nomi, we recognize that meaningful change often requires more than good intentions—it requires resources. That's why we're proud to provide our champions with a grant to turn their ideas into action. From organizing community events to supporting local organizations, our champions have the autonomy and support to pursue projects that truly matter to them and their communities.
Meet our inspiring Community Champions
Berit Hackler, Ywaidree Machin-Quirantes, and Jacqueline Suttin are the leaders of our inaugural Community Champions pilot program. Each brings a unique set of passions, ideas, and strengths, and we couldn't be more excited to work alongside them.
Berit Hackler, building a better Salt Lake City, UT
Berit's goal is to foster greater community engagement and connectedness. Whether enhancing public spaces, supporting local nonprofits, or creating new volunteer opportunities, Berit is committed to improving lives and strengthening the social fabric of her community. She says, "When individuals come together to allocate resources, time, and generosity, we can create great positive impact."
Ywaidree Machin-Quirantes, advocating for seniors in Miami, FL
For Ywaidree in Miami, the Community Champions program is an opportunity to continue her life's work of uplifting vulnerable seniors. With over two decades in senior healthcare, she has witnessed firsthand the isolation, nutrition issues, safety challenges, and overall struggles this population faces daily. Ywaidree's passion is igniting a movement of compassion - one that reduces preventable hospitalizations, combats loneliness, and ensures the dignity of Miami's elders.
Jacqueline Suttin, championing health equity in Texas
In Austin, Jacqueline is driven by her belief in achieving true health equity and access, especially for underrepresented communities. Her focus is on education and advocacy around critical issues like STEM/STEAM, health literacy, and inclusivity for LGBTQIA+ and minority groups. As Jacqueline shares, "Giving back fosters hope and sets a higher standard of living, demonstrating what increased quality of life can look like."
Leading by example
Nomi Health has a unique opportunity to lead by example, fostering a culture of giving, empathy, and positive change. We are excited to see the incredible accomplishments of Berit, Ywaidree, Jacqueline, and future Community Champions. We are sure their work will better countless lives while setting a powerful example of what's possible when we trust in the visions and voices of our communities.
